Timing: Recognized annually from October 1 to October 31
For Women: About 1 in 8 women (13%) in the U.S. will develop invasive breast cancer in their lifetime. It is the most common non-skin cancer in American women.
For Men: Men can also get breast cancer, accounting for roughly 1% of all cases (about 2,670 diagnoses and 530 deaths estimated in the U.S.).
The Gap: Because breast cancer in men is rare and widely perceived as a women's disease, men often face dangerous delays in diagnosis and social stigma.
